52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks: #37 Closest to your birthday

When I first saw this theme, I thought my parents might have had the birthdays closest to mine. Because our birth dates were close, when I was an adult we would celebrate with family members on one date. We still recognized our individual dates as well. Further research showed there were others who had close dates. Mom -- 6 days, Dad -- 6 days.

I checked my family history program. I discovered that where I knew the actual date of the person's birth, I have 17 cousins who were born on the 27th of February. 

The next check was to find out which one of my ancestor's date was closest to mine. The first is John Robinson, my great-great grandfather, who was born according to the 1901 census, 3 March 1828, in Sowerby, Yorkshire, England. John died 5 June 1905, in Carnarvon Township, Manitoulin Island, Ontario. John -- 4 days.

A close second is Hannah Hemingway, my great-great grandmother, who was born, according to the inscription on her tombstone, 4 March 1819, in Markham Township. Her parents were Josiah Hemingway and Anna Stiver. Hannah died 13 October 1877.  Hannah -- 5 days.

It is interesting both of these ancestors are on my maternal side of the family.

Saturday Night Fun. - Who Shares my Birth Date?

Randy Seaver's Saturday Night Fun is to find those who share the same birth date as I.

None share the exact full date, but there are quite a few who have the same day and month -- 27 February. I didn't look closely at those who were born in the 1900s.

Here is what I discovered using Brother's Keeper - Word search.

Archie Alexander Duncan in 1896 in Buttonville, York County, Ontario. [fourth cousin]

Martha Ann Stiver in 1863 in Markham Township, York County, Ontario. [second cousin, thrice removed]

Harold Stiver Willson in 1897 in Detroit, Michigan. [third cousin, twice removed]

Robert Edward Robinson in 1892 in Thessalon, Algoma, District Ontario. [first cousin, twice removed]

Julianna Sophia Stiver in 1825 in Markham Township, York County, Ontario [first cousin, four times removed]

Arthur Edward Stiver in 1867 in Osprey Township, Grey County, Ontario. [second cousin, thrice removed]

So no direct line ancestor with my date but first, second, third and fourth cousins who share my special date.

Guatemalan Trip

A week Saturday, I returned from eight days in Guatemala. Why travel to Guatemala? -- mainly because my brother lives there. This was my second visit. For both trips, I travelled with my sister. We had a great time seeing everyone again. While there, I celebrated another birthday. As far as I can recall, this was the first time to celebrate my birthday outside the country. When you have a winter birthday, you don't usually get to enjoy a meal prepared on the barbecue. On the Sunday before my birthday, my brother barbecued hamburgers for some of the extended family. On my actual birthday, I enjoyed breakfast and lunch outside under the thatched roof rancho watching the waves of the Pacific Ocean, a walk along the beach and a dip in the pool.
A visit to Guatemala would be remiss without some time spent in Antigua, Guatemala. We spent part of a day visiting the shops. The lunch at the restaurant at Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo was delicious and the setting was beautiful. We all chose a typical Guatemalan meal.
After our enjoyable visit, we agreed we would not wait another five years to return. Thanks Doris and Ted for the hospitality. Here are a couple of photos from the trip.
