Janet the researcher is the blog of Janet Iles, a retired library technician. During the last few years of my full time work, I did reference service, catalogued the local history and genealogy section of the public library where I worked, responded to genealogy queries, supervised staff and did systems work.
In my post retirement life, I do genealogical and historical research under the business name Janet Iles Consulting & Research Services. I also lecture on various genealogical and local history topics. I am a member of the Ontario Chapter of Association of Professional Genealogists. I studied genealogy through the National Institute of Genealogical Studies. I have earned my Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies (PLCGS) in Methodology, Canadian and English Records.
I am the vice-chair of the Bruce Grey Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, I am on the board of the Grey County Historical Society and the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre. In addition, I am the President of the Markham Berczy Settlers Association.
Most of the articles relate to my personal genealogical research or life and history of and in Grey County, Ontario and other parts of Ontario where my ancestors lived. Also included are postings about my various interests.
It is my plan to incorporate many of the stories wrtten for this blog in a family history book.
I also have another personal blog Graveyard Rabbit of Grey County, Ontario
