Tombstone Tuesday - John Mucklow

In recent postings, I have talked about John Mucklow, my great-great grandfather. (check for Mucklow in my surname list).

John was a gamekeeper. Here is a photo of his tombstone.

The tombstone quite likely was paid for by his employer Sir. W. Throckmorton of Coughton Court.
I believe he is buried in Aston Cantlow. I have to check on that.

Tombstone Tuesday - Catharine Walker Tackaberry (Necropolis Toronto, Ontario)

When walking through the Toronto Necropolis, Cemetery and Crematorium, I saw this most interesting monument.

TACKABERRY

She was married and lived at 144 Park Road at the time of her death. [1] Her husband was Richard Tackaberry, a dry goods merchant. Robert's business in 1878 was Tackaberry, Joselin & Co. at 10 Colborne Street. They lived at 14 Maitland. [2] The company imported American dry goods. In 1901, Catherine was found with her husband, his cousin and a domestic in Ward 2 of Toronto.[3] Her date of birth matches that shown on the marker above.

Richard was born in Ireland and came to Canada in 1866. [3] They were married in Yorkville on 3 June 1874. He was the son of George and Mary Tackaberry. Catherine was the daughter of  Robert and Mary Walker. [4]

I didn't look at the other side to see if other names were inscribed.

Tombstone Tuesday - David Johnston & Hannah Hemingway

David Johnston and Hannah Hemingway are my great great grandparents.
They are buried in Hagerman East Cemetery in Markham Township, York County, Ontario (now the Town of Markham).

My mother's eldest sister knew that David Johnston and Hannah Hemingway had lived in the Unionville area of Markham. My mother and I made a trip to the area and started looking for cemeteries. We did not find them on our first trip.

One day, while at a meeting of the Bruce Grey Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, we were sharing what we were doing in our research. I said that we had gone down to the area but had not found the gravestone for David Johnston and Hannah Hemingway. It was my good fortune that there was someone there from Markham who offered, after the meeting, to check for me. I gave her the particulars as far as I knew them at the time.

Imagine my delight that some time later when an envelop arrived with photographs of some stones with transcriptions. The marker is lying flat on the ground. I do not know if that is how it was originally placed. I was certainly thankful to that person. I was later able to pay return visits to the area to continue my research.
