Remembrance Sunday Service: In Grateful Remembrance

On the Sunday before Remembrance Day, my church (Georgian Shores United Church, Owen Sound) has a special service. A part of the service includes reading the names of those from the former congregations (Division Street and Knox) who gave the supreme sacrifice in World War One and Two.

The names read of those who were associated with Division Street have become familiar to me as the two congregations joined together on January 1, 2012.

For more than five years, I researched the men associated with Knox. The church organ was a military memorial to the men from the First World War. I also added the men from the Second World War. A question I asked myself as I researched each man was, "Who was left to mourn?" Thus their profiles include family information.

In Grateful Remembrance: Honouring the Men From Knox United, Owen Sound Who Paid the Supreme Sacrifice also included photographs of the church organ, church plaques, and local monuments.

The book was published in 2011 several months before the amalgamation of the two congregations. Because of that I also included information about the church organ, historical highlights, and the Knox history timeline.
