It is unfortunate I didn't learn about Helen earlier as it would have been wonderful to share information with her.Janet Ileshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10742257036879298830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305679911018720590.post-3479844219839561532022-03-21T17:17:42.795-04:002022-03-21T17:17:42.795-04:00Hi Janet, I'm a greatgreatgrandson of David...Hi Janet, I'm a greatgreatgrandson of David's brother James Johnston 1825-1882 and Jennet Hogg 1833-1880 (grandmother was a Johnston).

I see from Helen Johnston's book that David's line was not well known -- I met Helen in the 80s and received a copy of her book then. I can say that James and Jennet both died young, with four kids under 17, so family stories would tend to be forgotten or not have a chance to be told.

As of late another researcher has contacted me about the provenance of "Hardie" as middle name. It appears four more times in my line, and once in younger brother Williams' line, and almost certainly predates our 3rd great granddad James Hardie Johnston 1788. I came back to your your blog to see if you had any clues and to say hi.

Hi!

-Mark

Mark Suggitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01419812707132197485noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305679911018720590.post-17099120703754911252012-10-21T14:07:59.062-04:002012-10-21T14:07:59.062-04:00Hello Elizabeth

If you want to take it back another generation on the Hemingway side, read the articles on the Stiver family.Janet Ileshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10742257036879298830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305679911018720590.post-4899377185692860792012-10-21T12:58:21.274-04:002012-10-21T12:58:21.274-04:00Thank you so much for this treasure-trove of infor...Thank you so much for this treasure-trove of information about David Johnston and Hannah Hemingway and their families. I have been researching my family tree and had been stimied - possibly because I was spelling their names as David Johnson and Hannah Hemmingway. I am descended from their daughter Margaret, who married John Hoover Doner - they were my great-grandparents.

Elizabeth Holden, in Ottawa, Ontario
Elizabeth Holdenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11567093383299665206noreply@blogger.com
